NICOLAE ALEXA
Born on February 24, 1967 in Bichigiu, Romania. In 1990 he moves to Austria and spends more than one year in the refugee camp Traiskirchen. Starting with 1992 he accepts various works and thus meets Romanian artists living in Vienna with whom he participates in restauration works. The sculptor Mircea Lacatus encourages him to do photography. Nicolae Alexa buys his first camera and shoots his first pictures. As a member of the artists group "Der Steg" he participates in one of their exhibitions at Pygmalion Theatre Vienna. The members of "Der Steg", mainly the brothers Moldovan, encourage him to continue with his activity as a photographer. In 1997 he subscribes to photography courses at the "Künstlerische Volkshochschule" Vienna and later continues by his own. At the same time he earns his living as a truck driver and travels all over Europe. During that time he realises his first picture series "Din Mers" (On the way). His work is presented in Vienna (among others at Palais Palffy),Romanian Cultural Center,Gallery Time, Gallery Windspiel and Streetfest Josefstadt-Künstlerischer Freiraum in der Intensivstation 53).Brasov, Cluj Napoca (Art Museum) and Bucharest. At present he collaborates with several artists and companies and take photos for books and CDs covers, advertisement and works as well on portraits. |
